Obiora Ike

The Right Reverend Monsignor Professor , born in Gusau, Northern Nigeria (1956) is a Catholic Priest, Teacher, Scholar, Development Practitioner, Social Entrepreneur, Publisher and Author of over 100 Book Titles. Dr Ike is Full Member of the European Academy of Science and Arts; Member of the Club of Rome; Member of the International Integrated Reporting Council, UK; Member of the International Association for Human rights in Frankfurt; Member of the New York Academy of Science and Arts; Member of the Nigerian National Constitutional Conference 2014 and Member of the International Advisory Board of University of Stellenbosch Business Executive Ltd. Ike is an acknowledged and sort after public speaker and bridge builder across religions, cultures and continents. He is a highly regarded public opinion thought leader in Nigeria and is involved in human rights issues and development practice.

Academic studies took place in five countries from 1975 to 1986 in Nigeria, Austria, Germany, France and UK. He holds degrees in philosophy, theology, economics, journalism and political science, obtaining the doctorate degrees in Bonn, Germany, with specialisation in Ethics.

Professor Dr Ike has held several positions of service to Church, the Economy, Society and State within Africa and in Europe. He has been chairperson of 27 educational and development organisations and is founder of the leading and first Ethics Institute in Nigeria – Catholic Institute for Development Justice Peace and Caritas (CIDJAP). He also founded the Prisoners Legal Education and Assistance Scheme and the Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs Training Association. He has served as Chairman of the leading Umuchinemere Procredit Microfinance Bank Ltd in Nigeria building it up from scratch in 1995 to its current 25 branches with well over 3 Billion in assets. Ike has held several academic posts as Professor at the Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt/Germany and visiting Professor at the Theological Faculty Tilburg, The Netherlands. Most recently he is Professor of Ethics and Intercultural Studies, Godfrey Okoye University, Nigeria and is Chairman of the Enugu State Government Economic Advisory Committee since 2015. Since 1st July 2016, he was appointed Executive Director of Globethics.net in Geneva, Switzerland, supervising the leading global applied ethics international NGO an ECOSOC member of the United Nations.
